The Heart Behind
Belvin Literacy Institute

For the past 20 years as a Certified Academic Language Therapist, I’ve worked with countless students who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling. I’ve seen firsthand how these challenges impact their confidence and well-being—some experience anxiety as early as age five. Parents often share that their children wake up with stomachaches, dread going to school, and call themselves “dumb.” These bright, capable children begin to lose self-esteem and resort to guessing, pretending to understand, or withdrawing from class participation. This is simply not acceptable.

These students can learn to read. They just need to be taught in a way that works for them—through a multi-sensory, explicit, and systematic phonics-based approach delivered by trained professionals. That’s why Belvin Literacy Institute was founded: to ensure every child, regardless of background, has access to instruction that meets their needs.

Belvin Literacy Institute (BLI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization responding to the growing need for specialized instruction. BLI provides scholarships to:

  • Children who need targeted literacy and/or math intervention

  • Adults pursuing certification as Literacy Intervention Specialists or Academic Language Therapists to serve students with language-based learning challenges using evidence-based methods
